Happy Mother's Day!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day! Mine was good. Before I could get out of bed this morning, Lucas came in and told me that I needed to stay in bed until breakfast was ready. When breakfast was ready, it consisted of chocolate chip pancakes (the boys' and my favorite), sausage and bacon. I received cards, Season 3 of Army Wives and 2 crafts that the boys made.

After breakfast, everyone got baths and showers and we headed up the road to Red Robin for lunch. We met my in-laws, my sister-in-law and her husband, Gee-Gee (Erik's grandmother), and Uncle Paul at Red Robin. I love Red Robin! Such delicious food!!! My in-laws gave me a beautiful vase and flowers from their garden, and my sister-in-law and her husband gave me tulips, a purse and a cooley cup.

Afterwards, we headed up to Erik's parents' house to spend some more time with them. We talked and let the boys play outside. On our way home, we stopped at another one of my favorite places--Starbucks. It was a cool spring day, so perfect for a nice hot mocha coffee. :)

It was a good Mother's Day. I'm sure that as the boys get older, my Mother's Days will get even better!

I wanted to end this with a post that my dear friend, Sarah, has on her Facebook page:
"Happy Mother's Day for all that have babies to hold in their arms, those that have babies loving them from heaven, those who are waiting to hold their little ones not here yet, and those still yearning for that little one in their hearts. I hope ALL MOMS enjoy this day!"

Oh, what a feeling!

Well, I haven't been to school since last Wednesday, February 3rd. We have gotten about a foot and a half of snow here since last Friday. It is rather strange having a winter with this much snow. It hasn't been like this for me since my senior year in college.

It has been an eventful week with the snow mostly, but for me, it was a week with a first. I woke up early Monday morning (2 am to be exact) with a dry throat. Needless to say, after my first drink, I realized that this wasn't just a dry throat. My right ear felt a little sore and the dry throat feeling just didn't go away. I figured I was getting a cold or a sinus infection, so I took a couple Tylenol and headed back to bed. By 6 o'clock in the morning, I could tell that I was going to have problems. My throat hadn't felt this sore since before I had my tonsils removed back in '95. Every time I tried to drink something, it was so hard to swallow. Still not believing that I was getting sick, I went on through the day until the afternoon. That is when Erik told me to go lay down and he would worry about the boys.

Laying down didn't really help. I laid there crying because my throat hurt so much and the rest of me was just so achy. I can tolerate a whole lot of pain. I went through all three labors of my boys without any pain medicine. But for some reason, this pain really scared me. I think that I remembered how bad it was before I finally had my tonsils removed. I was running a fever that did not come down until almost 6 o'clock. I was able to eat a little spaghetti for dinner and an ice cream sandwich later. Those were the only things that I ate that day. I didn't sleep well that night. The next day, Erik went back to work. I knew that another storm was coming later that day, so I needed to get to the doctor's. I called my mom to talk to her about my throat and she thought that it might be strep throat. I was a little bit shocked because I have never had strep throat before. I made an appointment with my doctor for later that morning while my mom watched the boys. I have had the same doctor for most of my life. He knows about my curved ear canals and my small ear drums. He looked at the throat and said that it looked bad. He didn't think that it was strep, but he still did a culture. After the culture, I waited for 5 minutes. He was quite shocked to see that it was positive. Thirty-one years old and my first case of strep! He gave me an antibiotic and told me to come back on the 22nd for a second culture to make sure the strep was gone.

It has been over 48 hours and I am finally feeling better. The one good thing about this sickness is that I haven't wanted to eat, so I have lost 5 pounds in the last couple of days. I have kind of laughed about it because I was praying last week and asked God to help me get some self-control when it came to eating so I could finally lose the last 18 pounds of baby weight. I think that sometimes He likes to do things a little differently than I would have chosen to do.

My Attempt at Blogging

I have been wanted to start a blog for some time now. Figuring I have a lot going on with my life, and my addict to Facebook is getting too much. I need something else to do while I'm on the computer! :) So, here I am! Attempting to blog about my life. You will probably hear too much about my boys and Mic Mic (our cocker spaniel).

Right now, I am home on a Friday because my oldest son, Lucas, is sick. He started throwing up in the middle of the night, and now he is running a fever. He is a little upset because he will probably have to miss his cousin's birthday party tomorrow. I'm hoping that his fever breaks soon.

This has been a busy week. Midterms started at school. The math ones were on Wednesday and Thursday. Mickey also has had me worried all week. He started acting strange on Monday. We thought that maybe he was hurt or had been poisoned. He loves being outside, so it was weird when I had to pick him up and put him outside to go potty. Mickey was acting like the dog that we always wanted. He was laying around and not getting into anything. If anyone knows Mickey, they know that when he is acting like that, something is wrong. He is usually jumping on things and trying to get people's food. I think though we figured out what was wrong. When I got home yesterday, I went to let Mickey out of the laundry room. (That's where he stays when we are not home.) When I opened the door, I was encountered by a smell. We think that maybe Mic Mic was constipated. He started to act like his old self again. I should have known that the night was going to be eventful!
