January Books

I made a New Years goal to read 38 books this year. I'm doing pretty good with reading a lot more this year. For the last few years, I have been in a reading rut. I haven't been reading much or I have been re-reading books. Last year, I kept a reading log at the end of my journal. I only recorded the new books that I had read. This year, I am doing both. There are certain books that I have re-read many times. These are my 6 January books:

The Choice-Nicholas Sparks
I have been trying to read all of his books. This was one of my favorites. I wanted to read it before the movie came out.

My Horizontal Life-Chelsea Handler
I love celebrities life stories! With that said, I wasn't very impressed with this one. I was speed reading through this one just to get to the end.

Three Wishes-Liane Moriarty
I love her books! This was the one that I have been wanting to read and it did not disappoint!

Murder is Misunderstood (The Bad Mother's Club #1)-Heather Horrocks
This was a free read through my Kindle. I really enjoyed it! I like cozy mysteries and this fit the bill.

Murder to Go (Food Truck Mysteries #1)-Chloe Kendrick
Not one of my favorites, but another cozy mystery.

Every Last One-Anna Quindlen
I found this book during a snow day and forgot I had it. Actually, one of my best friends gave it to me to read and I had forgotten that I had it. This one was hard to put down after I got about halfway through it. It wasn't what I expected, but it was such a great story!

Oh Where, Oh Where has my summer break gone!?!

It seems like only yesterday I started making my long t0-do list for the summer. One of the top items: Post on blog more!!! Well...that didn't work very well. Out of around 20 things, I did 4. I hate to say it, but I spent most of my summer break catching up on shows and reading a few books.

The beginning of my summer started with a trip to "Paradise" in our RV for 4th of July weekend. "Paradise" is a beach located in Dameron. It wasn't really a trip to paradise this year. Erik was stung by a Man O' War. He went to the hospital on Sunday afternoon before we could have our big cookout. Luckily, we are only 45 minutes away from this paradise and went home that night, so he could rest. Later that week, I was at the car dealership to get 2 of the 3 recalls done on my minivan.

The next week, I met my BFF in Culpeper, VA for our annual girls' day out. Culpeper is the halfway city between her house in Virginia and mine in Maryland. We started the day out at our favorite coffee shop called Raven's Nest Coffee House. Sarah, of course, had a decaf (she is expecting twins this fall!). Next stop was pedicures (Sarah's first!) and then a little lunch. An hour of retail therapy, and then we had to say good-bye. :( A lot of talking happened that day. Sarah has been my best friend since my junior year of college, and most days, I wish she lived closer. The ride home was very eventful. I got caught in a bad storm and then had to sit in traffic before the Nice bridge because of an overturned UPS truck!

Sunday the 17th started my favorite part of summer break-Our annual trip to the Outer Banks! Erik and I have been going there together since we started dating in 2002. It is so wonderful and relaxing to go somewhere that seems so familar, but you are only there once a year! This year we stayed at the Sea Scapes condos. Usually, we have a house close to the beach, but this year we went as a family of five without other friends or family to help out or have fun with! But, that was ok! It was a week of fun with my three boys and hubby! We went to the beach and the pools. We took the boys miniature golfing and to the Lost Colony. The boys enjoyed walking around on the Elizabeth II ship and going into the museum. Pirates are a favorite for all three of them. We were lucky to have good friends of ours, Jen and Scot, come down on Friday night to spend sometime with us. They also gave my hubby and me a little time to ourselves Saturday night, so we could go see the Harry Potter movie! Loved it!

The following week, I was at the dealership for my last recall! This one lasted almost 4 hours, but I spent it getting some school work done. On Sunday the 31st, I went with my hubby, in-laws and my sister-in-law and her husband to see WICKED!!! I thought it was wonderful! My hubby and FIL didn't enjoy it as much (or at all)! We had family portraits done on August 7th. They turned out wonderful!!! I wish I knew how to post those pictures on here.

So that was my summer break in a nutshell! I do look forward to a new school year! Hopefully, it will be better than last year.

These are some of the books I read this summer:

  • Kendra Wilkinson's autobiography

  • Summer at Willow Lake by Susan Wiggs

  • Sisterhood Everlasting by Ann Brashares (Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants novel based 10 years later)

  • Do Tampons Take Your Viginity? A Catholic Girl's Memoir by Marie Simas (Very Funny!)

  • All 6 books of the Mom Zone Mysteries by Sara Rosett (A new favorite mystery series)
